Vinyl Vibes: A French 60s Summer DJ Set

I love watching DJs spin records. It has to be my favorite type of ASMR-type video. Coffee Break Sessions has on a long series of international DJs showcasing all vinyl sets. They’re wonderful.

Yé-yé Girls: 1960s French Pop Fashion

This week's guest on the show is Can from Can Plak, a record shop situated in the Kadikoy neighborhood in Istanbul. In this episode, Can focuses on 45 RPM French singles from the 1960s, including French beat, garage rock, and ye-ye songs, showcasing iconic tracks from artists such as Sandie Shaw, Françoise Hardy, and Brigitte Bardot. It also includes one of my favorite versions of 4. Nathalie’s "L’Amour Nous Repond" and a great series of 60’s-era keyboards. Can’s leveling really helps them pop.

It’s wonderful summer listening.

"Tu Veux Ou Tu Veux Pas," sung by Brigitte Bardot, is the French version of "Nem Vem Que Não Tem," a major hit in Brazil performed by Wilson Simonal. Simonal, who might have been more famous, but “saw his career decline due to a significant mistake in 1971,” as I first read it. His mistake was that he enlisted the help of the police to kidnap and assault his accountant, whom he suspected of embezzlement. It ended badly for everyone involved, including the accountant.
