French Hip-Hop Abstrait or Experimental

Gasoline is a French hip-hop group with a style in the realm of RJD2, Company Flow and DJ Shadow, with some unique elements as well.

Trip hop, or mellow instrumental Hip-Hop (hip-hop abstrait, in French) was basically started by Yoann Letard, a member of the producer group L'agence (collective La Fondation), Letard was one of the first in this genre in France. Gasoline's music style, which falls under experimental hip-hop and hip-hop, is known for its cinematic moods drawn from film noir and street movies.

Several French DJs and rappers contributed to the collective's first album, "A Journey Into Abstract Hip-Hop" (2002) - it was also one of the first collectives of this type in France as well.

This one album is a great intro to the era of French hiphop.

Other artists in this are worth looking up on their own: DJ Matsa, the collective Turntables Dragun’z (DJ Majestic, DJ Ralph, DJ Sya Styles), All Tek (Dam’s and Ced Swift), DJ Nels, Akela, Joe l’Affront, Kara, Marissa Knight, and the Japanese artist Maki Kito. The second album "Snap Your Neck Back" (2005) featured contributions from the American crew The Dojo Sound, DJ Troubl’, the French Les Poètes Maudits, and Aerodrink.
